The S.T.A.N.D. Method
Our Roots LLC · The S.T.A.N.D. Method
Five Steps.
One Life.
A suicide prevention and wellness framework born not in a classroom — but in the darkest moments of a survivor's life. Seven times over. This is the method that kept Kenyata Lawson alive — and now she teaches it to others.

Built From Lived Experience
The S.T.A.N.D. Method was not created in a university. It was not developed in a research lab. It was built step by step inside the darkest chapters of one woman's life — and refined through survival, healing, and the decision to turn pain into purpose.
Kenyata Lawson survived seven suicide attempts. Each time she chose to stay, she learned something new about what it takes to survive a crisis, tell the truth, access help, move forward, and eventually — deliver that same hope to others.
That is not just a framework. That is a testimony. And it is the most powerful credential any teacher can have.
"I know that life is sometimes very dark — even when the sun is shining. That knowledge does not come from a textbook. It comes from living it, and choosing to turn that pain into purpose."
The Five Steps of S.T.A.N.D.
How to recognize you are in crisis and take the first step to stay alive — that moment when everything feels impossible but you choose to reach out or pause instead of act. This step teaches participants to identify their personal crisis warning signs, create a survival plan for their darkest moments, and understand that reaching out is not weakness — it is the bravest thing a person can do.
Kenyata's story: Seven times she stood at that edge. Seven times she chose to survive the moment instead of end it. Every one of those moments is the foundation of this step.
You cannot heal what you will not name. This step is about getting honest — brutally, courageously honest — about what is breaking you. Depression. Trauma. Shame. Loss. Anger. Whatever it is, it must be named and spoken out loud before it can be healed. Silence is not strength. Speaking your truth is. This step guides participants from the habit of silence to the practice of honesty.
Kenyata's story: How she went from years of silence to naming her pain — and how that naming became the first real act of healing in her life.
You are not alone — but you have to be willing to reach for the people, tools, and resources that are there for you. Therapy. Faith. Community. Friends. Hotlines. Coaches. Whatever it takes to build your support system. The difference between isolation and connection is often the difference between life and death. This step helps participants map out exactly who and what is available to them — and teaches them how to actually use those resources.
Kenyata's story: Who showed up for her. What kept her alive. The specific moments when connection made the difference — and what she learned about asking for help.
Healing is not linear. It does not happen in a straight line and it does not look the same for everyone. This step is about choosing — one day at a time — to build resilience, set boundaries, and move toward meaning even when it is hard. Even when progress is invisible. Even when it does not feel like enough. Participants learn practical tools for navigating their healing journey and turning survival into actual living.
Kenyata's story: How she went from surviving to actually living — building Our Roots LLC, creating the coaching program, stepping into speaking. The messy, nonlinear, beautiful process of navigating forward.
Once you have survived, your job becomes helping others survive. This is the most powerful step — the transformation from someone who has been through darkness into someone who becomes a light for others still in it. Turning your pain into purpose is not just healing. It is legacy. It is the reason you are still here. This step helps participants understand that their story — no matter how painful — has the power to save someone else's life.
Kenyata's story: Our Roots LLC. The Reversal Oil. The speaking. The coaching. The S.T.A.N.D. Method itself. Every piece of this business is her delivering hope — showing others that surviving is just the beginning.
